Neustift Mountain Guide Monument

On May 28, 2016, the new bronze mountain guide statue was inaugurated in Neustift in the Stubai Valley. In the presence of a number of spectators and representatives of the Austrian mountain guide as well as invited guests, Pastor Josef Scheiring gave the solemn blessing of the heroic sculpture. It draws attention to the long tradition of mountain guides in Neustift and underlines the importance of this profession for the economic and tourist boom in the village and the region.

Right at the entrance to the center of Neustift in the Stubaital, the statue has been placed in front of the Haus der Berge, which also houses the office of the Stubai Alpin mountain guide school. It was designed by the Stubai artist Hansjörg Ranalter, it was cast in Telfs by the Krismer company and was dedicated by a Stubai mountain guide from the very beginning, Friedl Stern, commonly known as "Schlicker Friedl". It represents a living mountain guide in historical equipment, who is surrounded by five stones that symbolize the five most important mountains around Neustift (Elfer, Zwölfer, Brennerspitze, Hoher Burgstall, Niederer Burgstall).
