The Plague Column, also known as Morovy Stlp, rises majestically on the fish market near the Danube, telling of a dark era. This baroque column, crowned by the figurative representation of the Holy Trinity, radiates an ominous beauty. Surrounded by saints who, with folded hands and lowered gazes, offer prayers of thanks to God, it recalls the suffering and despair that plagued the city of Bratislava in the 17th century.

During this time, the plague raged, depopulating the streets, leaving behind empty houses and broken hearts. The custom of erecting plague columns spread mainly in the Habsburg Monarchy as a symbol of survival and hope after the darkness. In 1712, after the end of the devastating epidemic, the Morovy Stlp was erected, not only as a memorial to the suffering but also as a monument against forgetting. In its shadow lingers the memory of the grief that once permeated this place, and the gratitude for survival amidst the chaos.
