View of the Heidesee

Highlight • Lake

The Heidesee in the northwest of the city of Bottrop is a three-water former gravel excavation complex. The area was included in the recreation concept of the Ruhr area in 1973 and designed in sub-areas in the sense of biotope and species protection. It has become an important habitat for plants and animals that are worthy of protection. The lake, which today measures approximately 54 hectares, is home to a nationwide significant underwater plant vegetation (including five candelabra algae species).

Heath lake

Highlight • Viewpoint

This is a great place to linger. There's a bench to the side where you can sit. You have a fantastic view of the lake. I've enjoyed some wonderful sunsets there 😍.

Who has been here and what amazing things have you seen?

A nice place to relax while looking at the water 😊

Pfingstsee (Whitsun Lake)

Highlight (Segment) • Lake

Also this lake is owed to the mining. The seams in the subsurface can be thought of slowly and there are always such depressions. It's just good that nature is stronger than humans. Here a little stream meandered a few years ago.

Pfingstsee

We feel a special connection to some places. But what does that actually mean? And how does such a relationship differ from one with a person?

Wheel of Fortune Exercise: Inner Developmental Goals 3 - RELATIONSHIP

As humans, we are born in need of help. Other living beings are capable of survival from birth; we depend on other people to feed us or protect us from cold and heat. And we organize the world so that it benefits and protects us. The fact that we are social, intelligent, and adaptable beings is our recipe for success.

Living together is (not) a stroke of luck. Look for examples from your own life where this coexistence works well. And consider how the attitudes and feelings below contribute to this.

(1) Appreciation
Approach others and the world with a fundamental sense of appreciation, gratitude, and joy.
(2) Connectedness
A strong sense of being connected to or part of a larger whole, such as a community, humanity, or a global ecosystem.
(3) Humility
Being able to act in accordance with the needs of the situation without concern for one's own importance.
(4) Empathy and Compassion
The ability to treat others, oneself, and nature with kindness, empathy, and compassion, and to cope with the associated suffering.

Fantastic place. It looks a little apocalyptic with the dead trees in the water.

Rotbach Nature Reserve

Highlight • Forest

The Rotbach is a wonderful piece of nature.
The main paths are pleasant to walk on.
There used to be a beautiful path along the Rotbach.
Most of it is now closed to protect nature.
Please stick to it

Rotbachtal Nature Trail

Highlight • Trail

You can walk beautifully on natural paths directly along the stream. In winter, of course, it's muddy in places. But at the weekend it was too crowded for a relaxed dog tour.

February 1, 2025,Kirchheller Heide/Rotbach/Pfingst-Weihnachts-Heidesee🚶‍♀️🚶‍♂️⚒️🌞
This beautiful sunny tour started at the hiking car park opposite Grafenmühle. Through the Hiesfelder forest to the 3 lakes over partly frozen mud (crunches so nicely under your feet)😉. To the right and left of the paths there is always swampy area. The woodpeckers were busy hammering, and again and again the sun conjured up wonderful views in the …

This relaxed walk is always a good idea.😀
The mostly very wide paths led us to the Heide, Pfingst and Weihnachtssee lakes.
I spent quite a long time at the observation post at the Weihnachtssee lake and watched birds.
I was particularly pleased to see the nuthatch and the crested tit.🤩
As all the lakes were almost completely frozen over, …

Grafenmühle hiking car park, a beautiful route with great lakes and a natural stream.

Nice little loop. But the almost 14km were really enough in zero degrees. 😎

Very nice hike through the Kirchheller Heide nature reserve near Bottrop.
It would just be nice if the other dog owners would also use the leash in the nature reserve 🤷‍♂️

Very nice circular hike in the NSG Hiesfelder Wald and NSG Kirchheller Heide. We particularly liked the path along the Rotbach.

What a beautiful piece of earth with very different landscapes, wonderful lakes and ponds and then in the Rotbachtal an enchanted landscape with fallen trees along the stream. The hike is also suitable for inexperienced people, as most of the hike is on wide paths with no inclines. Only in the last third, when it goes cross-country, do you have …

The Rotbachweg is a fantastic natural experience, the stream winds through nature and there are always obstacles to overcome. It was really exciting, but the Heidesee is a place of relaxation.

Definitely worth it, start at the Heidesee car park, Alte Poststrasse, Bottrop
