Witkowo Historic Windmill

Highlight • Monument

The local government authorities of the Witkowo Commune, taking care of the historical and cultural values and traditions of the commune, decided to thoroughly renovate the mill, dating back to the second half of the 19th century. For young people, it is also of educational value, because it is a perfect place to conduct live lessons in the field of construction, operation and use of this type of objects. The windmill has been so carefully refurbished that it can even grind flour if needed.

The station was built in 1895. This is related to the construction of a 600 mm gauge line from Niechanów to Witków. The station was officially opened a year later. In 1896, construction of the route from Witków to Powidz (11.5 km long) began, and the extension of the line from Powidz to Anastazew took place on October 29, 1911. In Anastazew, there was a border crossing between the Prussian and Russian partitions. In 1920, the construction of the station building was stopped due to financial problems. Finally, the building with a capacity of 268.5 m³ was put into use in 1923.
