A knight who followed Roberto il Guiscardo, who had besieged Bari, in 1071, asked his Lord to retire to a place of rest. The said knight, Gualtieri Giosuè, was heard and retired to the area of the Canneto territory. His son Domenico got married and had a little girl whom he named Stella Beatrice. This, having become heir of the Canneto territory, became seriously ill, so much so that it was feared of losing her. The husband with lively faith addressed continuous prayers to the Madonna, so that she had saved his wife. Stella recovered and her husband in thanksgiving and in homage to the Blessed Virgin Mary had a chapel built in her garden entitled "Madonna della Stella", and established that a Mass would be celebrated every Monday. The very religious people of Canneto every Easter Monday honor the Madonna della Stella with a solemn feast, having then the people themselves elected the Virgin of the Star protector of Canneto which now with Montrone constitutes the Municipality of Adelfia.
