Mugel Cove and Botanical Garden

🙏 Thank you for taking the right steps to preserve this treasure and ensure everyone's peace and quiet!

Urban outskirts, natural beauty, overcrowding... this area of La Ciotat is as precious as it is vulnerable.

⛵ Between sea, cliffs, and gardens
The Trois Secs massif extends from the majestic Soubeyranes cliffs and ends with the famous Bec de l'Aigle, a legendary landmark for sailors since Antiquity.
🏞️ Coves wind their way through it, such as Figuerolles, Mugel, and Anse du Sec, before the landscape plunges into the sea towards Île Verte.

🔴 These headlands are made of puddingstone, a stunning rock formed of welded pebbles, a remnant of an ancient, now vanished river.

🌺 A remarkable garden: Nestled between the city and the rocky massif is the Mugel Park, classified as a "remarkable garden" since 1952.
🌳 This verdant space is home to unique exotic flora, brought back by sailors from all over the world (Asia, Africa, South America, etc.).
You can still see giant bamboo, palm trees, and rare plants carefully cultivated by Lucien Rouvier, the park's passionate gardener since 1923.

🏠 A unique panorama
At the top of the park, the Bec de l'Aigle house offers a spectacular view of the bay.
There, the Atelier Bleu educates young and old about nature through programs like Éducalanques.

💣 Palm trees on bunkers
It's hard to believe, but this peaceful garden was once a military site. During World War II, German troops occupied La Ciotat (November 1942) and fortified the area: bunkers, cannons, anti-tank walls, etc. Remains still remain above Anse du Sec.

🌴 After the war, Mr. Bronzo bought the land. With Rouvier, they transformed the site: the bunkers became an exotic green setting. A renaissance for this valley, now so popular with visitors.
