Uzel Rock

Highlight • Other

Pléchâtel-Lohéac station, on the Rennes to Redon railway line, is located at the foot of the Uzel rock. This rock was, without a doubt, the highest and wildest site on the banks of the Vilaine before the passage of the railway, which made it partially disappear. At the top were huge stones, shaped like a statue. Around the middle, there are still natural caves where you can see the names of the walkers who have visited them, engraved on the shale of the walls. These caves, which were quite difficult in the past, are almost impassable today.
It is there, on this rock, before the construction of the bridge which now connects the town of Pléchâtel to that of Saint-Malo-de-Phily, that we were told half a century ago by an old man called Richomme , boatman responsible for transporting passengers from one bank to the other, the legend of the Rocher d'Uzel (...).
see "The legend of the Rocher d'Uzel" in "Les contes du pays gallo" by Adolphe Orain (published in 1904).

Clos-Pointu Quarry

Highlight • Structure

Magnificent quarry which, preferably in sunny weather, shines with its blue water. Be careful, however, access is prohibited for swimming due to its very cold water and the risk of drowning.

Saint-Senoux Church

Highlight • Religious Site

The church of Saint-Senoux, rebuilt in 1896 in a Romanesque-Byzantine style, is distinguished by its onion-domed bell tower and vaulted nave. It reuses elements from the old church and retains the original altars, baptistery and confessionals.

Walking shoes are necessary as the paths are muddy.
We surprised a frog in a puddle.
