T-55 Tank at Fort du Mont Bart

Highlight • Monument

Fort du Mont-Bart is a fort in eastern France, built between 1874 and 1877 by the company Adrien Hallier.

It is a work forming part of the fortifications of the East of France of the Séré de Rivières type and forming an integral part of the defensive mole of Lomont.

It is located 483 meters above sea level, at the top of a hill called Mont Bart (commune of Bavans), near Bavans, Bart. No name is known for this fort, although a decree from General Boulanger provided for a baptismal name for each structure.

Dominating the valleys of the Doubs and the Allan, the strategic interest was to monitor the communication routes leading to Besançon, as well as to prevent the bypassing of the place of Belfort. Access this fact by three municipalities (Bart, Voujeaucourt or Bavans)
