Hill Castles Scar is a limestone crag in Wharfedale. From Conistone, you ascend via the atmospheric dry valley of Conistone Dib. There is a superb limestone pavement at the top of the crag as well as a ruined lime kiln. You experience some nice views from this spot, as with nearby Swineber Scar.

Mastiles Lane Below Cool Scar

Highlight • Viewpoint

Here, just below Cool Scar, Mastiles Lane drops to Kilnsey. It used to be a famous drove road between the village here and Malham (be sure to check the information board in the village - on the same road when it becomes tarmac again). Stunning views of Wharfedale towards Kilnsey and beyond as you descend towards the settlement.

Mastiles Lane

Highlight (Segment) • Viewpoint

Ancient Road that goes from Kilnsey to Malham tarn. This starts off steady but really cranks up the gradient as you get closer to the summit. A good challenge for many cyclists.
