This rocky tor is only a few yards from the summit Toposcope and Trig point, yet they get overlooked as a scenic viewpoint.

Another fine spot for a winter photograph, looking north to Sugar Loaf Hill, under a leaden sky with late snow on the ground.

Worcester Beacon Trig Point

Highlight • Natural Monument

This does mark the highest point and as a result the views in all directions are quite something. Most people tend to flock to the nearby Toposcope.

Worcestershire Beacon

Highlight • Summit

At 425m (1400ft) this is the highest spot in Worcestershire. At the trig point there is a plinth and map naming all the sights that are spread out before you, and just beneath the beacon lies a shallow cave that's a valuable source of shelter if the weather turns against you.

Worcestershire Beacon Summit and Toposcope

Highlight • Natural Monument

At 1,394 feet (425 m), Worcestershire Beacon is the highest point in the county and a grand viewpoint to boot. Its popularity is such that it is at the centre of a veritable spider's web of paths. As with so many summits in the region, beacon fires have been lit here in days gone by, notably to warn of the coming Spanish Armada in 1588.

On a clear day, you can see all the way to the Black Mountains plateau in South Wales. To the north west, the Shropshire Hills rise in gentle folds. The River Severn winds its way towards the sea to the east and south. A grand toposcope adorns the summit, enabling you to identify the surrounding landmarks.

Lady Howard de Walden Drive

Highlight • Trail

Lady Howard de Walden had this drive build during the 1890's to give employment to local people but also to provide an enjoyable route for horse drawn carriages around North Hill. It is one of the most used paths on the Malverns, and provides fine views across to the Beacon. especially when the trees of Happy Valley are in autumn colour.
