Geiskirche Cave

Highlight • Cave

The mighty rock hall of the Geiskirche, open on two sides, with the massive rock pillar is located on hiking trail 3 to the Easter cave. The dimensions of this large cave are remarkable with a length of 20 m, a width of 8 to 13 m and a height of up to 3.50 m. It is no coincidence that this hall-like cave was used as a shelter for animals and also for parties. Because of the ice formation, a visit to the wide-open cave is particularly attractive even in winter.

Gaisbrunnen near Peilstein

Highlight • Cave

The Gaisbrunnen is a small cave on "Rundweg 3", (HFA cadastral number: A 61), is also referred to in maps as the Geißbrunnen cave. It is a flat rock chamber with a length of about 7m and 6m, in the cave there is a Sintering basin.

You should definitely do this hike through the wonderful and bizarre rock world once. Information on the path and the caves can be found in the flyer "Höhlengeschichten" or "Höhlenwanderungen", both available in the town hall or at the info point in Neukirchen.

The little rock grotto Bettelmann kitchen, just 10 m long, 9 m wide and less than 2 m high, was once inhabited by the rock bear. There is a large boulder in front of the entrance.

Rock shelter at Lenzenberg

Highlight • Cave

In the middle of a magnificent rock arena, on the northern slope of the Lenzenberg, the wide entrance opens to the wide hall. You have to crawl a bit to get in here, it's really fun.

Bärenloch near Lockenricht

Highlight • Cave

In the middle of a wonderful rock arena, on the northern slope of the Lenzenberg, the 11m wide entrance to the Bärenloch opens. Here you have to crawl to get inside. Behind the entrance you can stand upright again and you are in a rock room, the rock hall, with a total length of 40 m, the width is up to 14 m. There is still a little sintered jewelry, but it has suffered a lot from contact with mankind and is often sooty black. Remains of cave bears and cave lions were found in this grotto. Like the beggar's kitchen, the beggar's kitchen and the Geiskirche, the bear hole was Babette Hauser's residence, the rock bear.

Very nice, shady beer garden. Note opening hours! A visit to the small but fine stalactite cave is definitely worth it.

May 26, 2024,Neukirchener Höhlensteig ... mit Karl
Yesterday we were on the Neukirchener Höhlensteig in glorious weather with its imposing rock formations and impressive caves, especially the Buchberghöhle and the Geiskirche. A worthwhile hiking trail, but after the heavy rain of the last few days it was quite greasy and slippery, so it required special attention and surefootedness.
