Small tour into unknown territory today. With better weather than expected and very nice conversation @Anne & Oli! 😊

Gray winter round once around the lake on always good paths

Hike around Lake Gremminer. Unfortunately it was mostly just asphalt, but the lap was still nice. The village of Gremmin used to stand there before it was dredged away due to brown coal mining. The resulting hole in the landscape was flooded. In memory of the village, the lake is now called Gremminer See. History plaques on the bank remind …

My second circumnavigation of the lake for the Iron Lake Challenge "Saxony-Anhalt" took me near Gräfenhainichen, to Lake Gremmin.
The lake takes its name from the dredged-over town of Gremmin, a lignite open-cast mine.

The lake is also known as "Ferropolis Lake" because the industrial museum "Ferropolis," the city of iron, is located on its peninsula. Mining history you …

A recommended round, manageable for everyone and paved. I don't really prefer it, but ok in wet weather and mud 👍 or for cycling.
Marvel at interesting and creative art at the end of the round. If you like, you can still visit the open-air museum. In summer the lake is definitely well visited, now it was very quiet and …

As a former miner, the collection of large equipment is naturally interesting. But even those less tech-savvy will be impressed by the size of the machines. And these things are not entirely without significance for the history of our region.
As for the walk around an open-pit mine lake, I'll refrain from commenting.

A wonderful tour where nature, art and history can be discovered. Absolutely recommended 👍

The weather was beautiful. But the path is almost entirely asphalt. The pedestrian bridge in Graefenhainichen over the B100 is closed. There is no diversion for pedestrians and cyclists. We just climbed over the embankment and the guardrail. That is simply thoughtless to negligent by those responsible.
