The St.-Johannis-Kirche in Magdeburg is the city's oldest parish church, first mentioned in 1131 as a Romanesque basilica. It was destroyed five times throughout its history, including during the Thirty Years' War (1631) and by bombs in 1945. After a long time as a ruin, it was reopened in 1999 as an event center. In 1524, Martin Luther delivered his famous sermon „Über die wahre und falsche Gerechtigkeit“ (On True and False Righteousness) in the church, which led Magdeburg to Protestantism.

As the church was desecrated, it now serves as a central venue for concerts, conferences, and celebrations (banquet hall). The south tower offers an observation deck.

The Gustav Zeuner chain steamer was built in 1894 as the first chain tow steamer of the second generation in the Übigau shipyard near Dresden. The ship is the only almost completely preserved relic of chain shipping on the Elbe. The ship was in service on the Elbe from 1895 to 1931 and is now a museum ship in the Magdeburg trading port. It is named after the German engineer Gustav Zeuner.
