Great view over this protected dune landscape. If there is no drought, you will also see a beautiful dune lake here.

Lovely walking path, over the wooden decking directly along the dunes! Please note: the decking can be slippery in the colder months.

Callantsoog Village Church

Highlight • Religious Site

Callantsoog is a coastal town in the municipality Schagen, North Holland (Netherlands), with 2,440 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017). Until the end of 2012, the place belonged to the municipality Zijpe.

The place is about fifteen kilometers south of Den Helder; next city (and train station) inland is the well ten kilometers away Schagen. There is a bus service there via the line 152. Furthermore runs in the summer months every hour called Zomerlijn line 851 between Petten and Den Helder.

The history of the settlement can be traced back over 1000 years. Due to floods and shifting dunes, their location was uncertain until the beginning of modern times. At times, the village was located on an island called Callinghe op 't Oghe. The forerunner of the current location, which was about 3 km from today's coastline, went down in the All Saints' Flood of 1570.

Nice but simple walk through the bulbs and beach. 6 km away along the bulbs and 6.5 KM through the dunes and beach. On a nice day like Easter Monday it is a nice walk.

Added together, we still managed to get the 18,000 steps and at the end we grabbed a terrace with a nice bottle of beer.

Too much wind, too unstable weather, so today we decided to take a short walk to Sint Martinszee.
The tide was coming in, so we couldn't return along the beach, but instead through the dunes.

Stayed dry but cool.

Main tour, if you will:
Also "only" 20 kilometers, but firstly, it's a vacation, and secondly, sandy paths, and those are notoriously strenuous.
We walk north along a fine dune path parallel to the main road, soon reaching the fence of the "Zwanenwater Nature Reserve," which we naively assumed …
