Duchess Bridge

Highlight • River

A lovely cast iron bridge over River Esk. A lovely arch over the river and the views of the hills past the trees lining the river's banks are lovely.

This is a Grade A listed structure, and possibly the oldest surviving iron bridge in Scotland.

Langholm Castle Ruins

Highlight • Castle

This castle was built in early 16th century. Langholm was practically given to the English at the beginning of the "Wars of the Rough Wooing" when Henry VIII demanded that Mary of Scots married his son Edward. The Scots had different ideas, though, and married her off to a Frenchman.

The castle was retaken by the Scots in 1547.
