Pontymoile Basin, was originally a toll point where the canal narrows as it approaches the large area expanse of water used for turning narrowboats and filling up with water.

Usk Bridge

Highlight • Monument

The old red sandstone bridge was built between 1746 and 1747. It has five arches and was widened in 1836-7, although it might not feel like it if traffic is busy! If you opt for the footpath, please dismount.

Usk to Woodlake Climb

Highlight (Segment) • Climb

Depending where this comes on your ride, it could be an opener climb for a big day in the saddle or an absolute slog.

If the latter it's probably a matter of pacing. This climb is quite long but never that steep, so it feels like you can go hard. Most of you probably can to be fair, but this was tough for me after Wentwood.

By a few lumpy bits they mean a category 4 climb that we faced shortly after a pub stop.

What a cool little section of lane to find with trees creating a natural cathedral space.

A lovely place with great views, with a variety of walking trails on offer.

Please note that the majority of the trails are closed annually from 1st October to 1st March, this is to protect over-wintering wildfowl, for which the area has been designated an SSSI.
