Aberystwyth Castle Ruins

Highlight • Castle

Aberystwyth’s castle may lie in ruins but they’re incredibly impressive ruins. Built in the 13th century, this castle only survived for around 400 years before it was partially demolished by Oliver Cromwell. At one point in its life, it was a royal mint and produced shillings.

The castle was originally a formidable fortress with walls within walls. Of King Edward I’s phenomenal Welsh castles (including Conwy and Caernarfon), this one is the most ruined but it remains evocative. The castle is free to enter and is well worth having a wander about.

Aberystwyth Seafront and Pier

Highlight • Historical Site

"Aber" is one of the biggest towns in mid-Wales and has a busy town centre with a good choice of independent shops and places to eat and drink. With a classic Victorian seafront, the oldest pier in Wales and a vibrant surf scene there are plenty of options to keep you occupied. Makes a great hub for tours to the North & South
