This is said to have been the inspiration for the Ben Gunn cave in Robert Louis Stevenson "Treasure Island" novel. He holidayed in Bridge of Allan often and used to walk the Darn walk. The spot is marked with a pirate themed bench in his honour.

Darn Walk

Highlight • Historical Site

Apparently dating from Roman times this linear walk from Dunblane to Bridge of Allan follows Allan Water for much of the way. Most people use the bus or train to return but it's a nice there and back as the scenery is different on the return. It’s known as the Darn Walk.
