Halewood Park Triangle Ponds

Halewood Park Triangle is Halewood's main public park, securing Green Flag Award in 2011. Consisting largely of mature woodland, with ponds, meadow habitat and heathland remnants, the Park is a designated Local Wildlife Site. Its layout is closely linked to its railway history. It formed part of the Liverpool Loop Line and the Trans Pennine Trail now follows the route leading southwards to Halewood Doorstep Green.

The path is great but be careful of some tree roots popping though.

Alder Hey Urban Foraging Station

The Alder Hey Urban Foraging Station is a woven landscape; it is about weaving together the young and old, green and urban, play and learning and Alder Hey Children's Hospital with its community.

At its core is the aspiration to inspire children to lead active, healthy, pleasurable lives. The garden is infused with the magic of discovery inherent to foraging. Visitors first encounter the garden as nostalgic glimpses through rampant, blossoming hedgerows. Within, a sense of freedom prevails - explore and leave the path, get lost in your own world. A design language of woven forms associated with foraging are abstracted into a woven landscape. Precast concrete "strands" make up a picnic blanket laid over an undulating landscape with edible herbs growing through.

Liverpool Loop Line Bridge at Halewood

The Loop Line was abandoned in 1964 by British Rail and became quite derelict until 1986 when plans were drawn up for its conversion to a walking and cycling route. Construction began in 1988, and the final section to Aintree opened in 2000. The railway path provides a flat, well surfaced green corridor through the urban environment of east Liverpool, and forms part of the award-winning Trans Pennine Trail. Even though you are so close to a city it feels like you're out in the countryside. The route is managed like a linear woodland park. It runs through rocky cuttings and high on embankments with wide views across the city.

This route is perfect for young and inexperienced cyclists and hikers because it is easy, flat and almost entirely traffic-free.

There are many bus routes running across and parallel to the path and service frequencies are available from Merseytravel. There are local railway stations near to the route at Hunts Cross, Halewood, Broad Green, Rice Lane and Walton.
