Tan Hill Inn

Highlight • Settlement

Tan Hill Inn is Britain’s highest pub at 1,732 feet (528 m) above sea level. This pub offers much more than just a claim to fame, however. With beautiful exposed beams, stone-flagged floor and welcoming fire, you'll find this to be a warm meeting place indeed.

Absolutely extraordinary views to be had from just under How Edge Scar - of this Whitsundale Beck gorge. The extensive views (Swaledale, Whitsun Dale, Mallerstand... you name it) from high above here are incredible, too. An unmissable one, this!

Waterfall on the River Swale

Highlight • Natural Monument

Although this bridge is about a mile further than the Coast to Coast Way halfway sign at Keld Lodge, crossing the Swale can serve as a symbolic halfway point.

Muker Wildflower Meadows

Highlight • Viewpoint

Some of the meadows at Muker are protected as part of the Muker meadows Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and the Northern Pennine Dales Meadows Special Area of Conservation (SAC). 12 fields at Muker offer a wide range of wild flowers which include cat's ear, wood crane's bill, buttercups, lady's mantle, yellow rattle, rough hawkbit, sweet vernal grass, pignut and melancholy thistle as well as a wide range of pollinating insects, birds and small mammals. Six of the fields have flagged paths. The best time to view the meadows is in June.

Crackpot Hall Farm Ruins

Highlight • Historical Site

Ruin of what must once have been a very attractive farm - partly due to its location above the Swale - until subsidence due to mining activity (in the 1950s) led to its rapid demise.
The name "Crackpot" refers to a "den or cave of the crows".

East Gill Force

Highlight • Waterfall

With a 15-foot (4.5 m) drop, East Gill Force is an impressive waterfall in a stunning location. Below the main falls is a smaller waterfall that cascades downstream. As the waterfalls are at the point where the Pennine Way and the Coast to Coast Walk intersect, you'll likely see a few fellow hikers.
