Panorama Loop

Highlight • Trail

Foresight with foresight, that's what this 10.4-kilometer, rather easy hiking trail promises.
It runs through the changing landscapes of dense mixed mountain and spruce forest as well as wide open land.

View of the Thuringian Forest

Highlight • Viewpoint

The Thuringian Forest Nature Park extends over the area around the Rennsteig in the Thuringian Forest, in the High Thuringian Slate Mountains with the Schwarzatal valley and on the western flank of the Franconian Forest between Eisenach in the northwest and Sonneberg in the southeast.
He includes, among other things, the so-called dam region around the Alte Gothaer Talsperre (also called Talsperre Tambach-Dietharz), the Schmalwasser, the Ohra and the Lütsche dams, the Erletor dam, the Schönbrunn dam at the transition from the Thuringian Forest to the Slate Mountains, but also the Schwarzatal valley with the Scheibe-Alsbach dam and the Goldisthal pumped-storage power station and the Lichtetal valley with the Leibis-Lichte drinking water dam.
The 170 km² large Vessertal-Thuringian Forest Biosphere Reserve is enclosed by the nature park.
The highest elevations in the Thuringian Forest Nature Park are the Großer Beerberg (982 m above sea level) and the Schneekopf (978 m above sea level) in the Thuringian Forest.
The Großer Farmdenkopf in the Thuringian Slate Mountains reaches 869 m above sea level, the mountain peaks Kieferle (867 m above sea level) and Bleßberg (865 m above sea level) are almost the same height.
The Thuringian Forest Nature Park directly adjoins the Franconian Forest and Thuringian Slate Mountains-Upper Saale Nature Parks.
Together, the three nature parks form a contiguous nature park area of approx. 4000 km².

August 4, 2022,Runde Frauenwald -Talsperre Schönbrunn (Vorsperre Schleusegrund)
Beautiful circular hike not far from the Rennsteig. Start in Frauenwald at the church. The dam is beautifully embedded in the Thuringian Forest and you walk around the Vorsperre Schleusegrund before heading back to the starting point in Frauenwald via a wonderful forest path.
Then we stopped at the Rennsteig train station, where the first two photos were taken.

Get out... get out of the house and into nature when the weather is nice. The trees are all in bud and will probably unfurl their foliage in the next few days.. wonderful.
