Don River Valley

Highlight • River

The Don River Valley cuts through Toronto in a surprisingly wild stretch of forested ravines, wetlands and multi-use trails just beyond the downtown core. Shaped by the Don River flowing through it, the valley is one of the city’s largest natural corridors, with paved and dirt paths passing beneath bridges, alongside marshes and through dense tree cover that feels far removed from the surrounding city.

This bridge connects the trails on either side of the Don River. There are great views from the middle of the bridge, especially during the autumn colour season.

Stop just before the Bloor Viaduct bridge to see artist Duane Linklater’s sculpture series: Monsters for Beauty, Permanence, and Individuality. Linklater, who is Omaskeko Cree from Moose Cree First Nation, has made concrete casts of some of Toronto’s most distinct gargoyles and placed them in the Don Valley. He says that gargoyles appeared around the city as resource extraction accelerated, especially along the Don. To meet the needs of the growing city, the valley’s hills were carved away for their clay and minerals and the Don River was straightened, twice. So, it’s somewhat fitting that these creatures have found their way back to where they began. Also called Bloor Street bridge have been built in 1918. It is double-decker arch bridge with 500m length and 40m height.
There are 5 traffic lanes plus two bicycle lanes on the upper level and two lanes of subway on the lower level.
It is fascinating to marvel mechanical engineering of it's construction.
Enjoy and respect

Bayview Avenue Bike and Pedestrian Lane

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

Finally we got dedicated bike/hike lane on Bayview, south of Rosedale Valley Rd. Trail parallel to this, along the Don River is broken and busy so this is excellent alternative to connect to the other trails in the Toronto bike system. Thanks City for spending our tax money wisely.
