The weighmaster was a sworn official of the community.
In 1948, the weights and measures office recommended that the community purchase a new weighbridge because the current scale was expected to fail. In 1951, the mayor informed the local council that the Karlsruhe Weights and Measures Office had sealed the old weighbridge. This meant that a new weighbridge measuring 8 m x 2.8 m was purchased at a price of 6,950 DM. The new weighbridge was designed for a load capacity of 25 tons with a weighing capacity of 20 tons. In addition to purchasing the weighbridge, the order was also placed at the beginning of 1952 for the general overhaul of the cattle scale with a load capacity of 1,500 kg.
When the weighbridge was ordered, the architect Alois Precechtel was also commissioned to plan a weighhouse for the bridge and livestock scales. When planning, it should be taken into account that the new building is kept as low as possible so as not to disturb the townscape and the front view of the former savings bank.
The new bridge and cattle scales were put into operation when the new weighhouse was built in February 1953.
Wilhelm Holl was Malsch's weighmaster from 1952 to 1988. His wife Luise helped out when he was unable to attend. His daughter-in-law was then Malsch's weighmaster until it closed.
Due to no longer justifiable investments in technology and declining use, the Waaghäusel was closed at the end of November 1992. As part of the flood protection construction work in 2018, the Waaghäusel was demolished.
The Waaghäusel is now commemorated by a group of sandstone sculptures in the town center, which were made by the sculptor Walter Grimm.
