Again in Thuringia, again for the Rennsteig run.
While the wife walks along the Rennsteig, the husband, aka the chauffeur on duty, has time to go hiking in the immediate vicinity.
On well-developed paths it goes all around the Schönbrunn dam, with beautiful views, always through the forest.
I met some E-MTB cyclists. Ideal area for this.

Admittedly, not much has been going on in the last few months, I mean, I haven't been running much 🤪... Now my conscience was bothering me, because months ago I carelessly signed up for the marathon hike at the Rennsteiglauf with my girlfriend over a glass of wine (maybe it was a bottle?! 😅🙈) - we missed our self-imposed time …

Today around Schönbrunn. As one of the bodies of water from the IronLake Challenge... The dam circuit is something for bikers.... A wide, almost completely paved path.. I like the forest differently... 🙈 It was nice because of the weather and the many small ones Details.

On my return journey from Hornbach (Rhineland-Palatinate) to Halle (Saale), I drove through Thuringia and stopped at the Schönbrunn Dam, Thuringia's ninth-largest lake.

This dam dams the Schleuse River, which flows into the Werra. The dam was built starting in 1967 and opened in 1977. Twenty-two families had to be relocated for its construction.

After what felt like an eternity, we went out into the woods again today.

Originally, I had a different tour in mind, but due to today's Rennsteig run, I had to change my plan at short notice. So we decided to do another dam round for the collection.

A great round with wonderful views. For me unreservedly recommended.

Does anyone happen to know the name of the caterpillar in photo 42? 🤷‍♀️ She looks like a mini pine cone.
Thanks in advance! 😉

The drinking water dam, which went into operation in 1975, is located in the southern Thuringian Forest. It dams the river Schleuse, a tributary of the Werra.
It is used to supply drinking water in the Suhl, Hildburghausen, Ilmenau, Meiningen and Schmalkalden regions, as well as flood protection. The Schönbrunn dam supplies 230,000 consumers in southern Thuringia with around 27,000 …

A very nice circular route. We will definitely run it again in summer if the weather is nice. In constant rain and on sometimes very smooth paths, it wasn't exactly a pleasure. But everyone can hike when the weather is nice. 😁
