"Popular piety in the 19th century was very pronounced. At that time, the believers were quite willing to erect religious signs with their own funds or to support church buildings.
For example, two wayside crosses have survived, both of which were erected in 1873. It is not known whether the victory in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71 or the happy return from it played a role.
In addition to the cross in Dilkrath-Genend, there is a second cross in the municipality of Schwalmtal that bears the year 1873.
It stands a little apart in the section related to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary
fishing. According to research from the 1970s, there is an old wooden
cross, which was replaced by today's stone cross around 1921. An inscription reads: "In the cross is salvation - 1873".
The body was renewed around 1970.
As a special sign, it marks the "village center" of Fischeln with the ironing track built in the immediate vicinity.
Next to it, a display case provides information about local events."
