Waldschänke Grieshaus

Highlight • Restaurant

Great inn with a nice beer garden with lots of shady places. Fair prices, very good snacks but also other dishes. A top address at the end of a tour or as a place to take a break during a cycling or hiking tour. Just take a look.

A worthwhile destination. On this side of the Isar you have a large meadow to linger.

Isar Confluence

Highlight • Natural Monument

Southeast of Deggendorf the Isar flows into the Danube. This place can be reached on unpaved roads that lead from Plattling through a beautiful meadow landscape (nature reserve!). Whoever (like us) wants to follow the Danube downstream, should keep to the right of the Isar, then from the mouth you can reach the south bank of the Danube in an easterly direction.

Isar Floodplain Forest at the Isar Mouth

Highlight (Segment) • Forest

The Untere Isar natural area - a jewel in Bavaria
Despite the enormous human intervention in the natural area of the Lower Isar, this area is to be classified as extremely valuable.
The riparian forests of the Lower Isar between Gottfrieding and Plattling are among the largest and last contiguous riparian forests in Bavaria. Due to their peculiarity, they have been reported to the EU by the government of Lower Bavaria as a bird protection area (special protected area) and FFH area (flora-fauna-habitat area). Thus, the Lower Isar near Piel Weichs is part of the European Natura 2000 network of biotopes.
In the area between Ettling and Plattling there are a wide variety of valuable habitats, such as natural nutrient-rich lakes, aquatic and reed vegetation and siltation zones, species-rich wet meadows and tall herbaceous meadows, softwood and hardwood alluvial forest, as well as ravine and mixed sloping forests.
These biotope types are home to rare species of flora and fauna that enjoy international protection. The protected animals of the area include the beaver, the bluethroat, the middle woodpecker, the narrow diaper snail, the dormouse, the brook mussel, the natural fish species (mud whip, schied, nerd, schrätzer, white-flossed gudgeon and female nerf) as well as the green wedge damsel.

there is little visual contact with the Danube -
Deggendorf is very beautiful

I've wanted to visit the Isarspitz (mouth of the Isar into the Danube) near Deggendorf for a long time.

Since it didn't quite happen on Thursday and it ended in a more or less big disaster for me, the tour title for this trip can be explained quite quickly:

Showing Translation

Especially from Niederalteich to Plattling great nature and zero traffic. Danube left side unfortunately little gastronomy, or then closed and few benches to rest.

Unfortunately, there was hardly any time to take pictures again today, pests everywhere.
There is a plague on the Danube and Isar 🦟🦟🦟🦟

Two crazy cousins have nothing better to do than cycle through the fields in 33 degree heat. 😅
My cousin set off for Lower Bavaria at 8am today because things wouldn't have been any better for her at Ammersee.🤭
Despite the heat, it was a nice, breezy tour.
