Limmer Lock

Highlight • Structure

The Linden harbor lock was built as a solid shaft lock between 1906 and 1916 as part of the Mittelland canal construction and the branch canal (SKL) branching off from it. Shipping operations began in 1916. Usable chamber length 85.00 m, clear chamber width 10.00 m, lifting height at normal water level 7.70 m.

The port lock is a shaft lock with open savings basins on the side. The saving pools have an approx. 0.50 m thick clay seal, which is covered by concrete slabs.

There is a one-story pump house next to the lower head.

At the lower head there is a road bridge that also serves as a mask for the lower gate.

The lock has a hinged gate on the head, a swing gate on the lower head, cylinder gates for the two-sided saving basins and upper water inlets and roller wedge gates in the perimeter of the lower head.

The poor building fabric requires extensive repair measures, which - as far as possible - have to be carried out with ongoing operations, as there is no further water-side access to the Linden harbor.

The Linden lock was rebuilt in such a way that on-site personnel are no longer required to operate it. The Linden lock is remote-controlled from the Hanover control center (at the Anderten lock).
