The lake is just awesome. You have to look at the reflections on the Obersee. But take one of the first ferries 😉.

Prince Regent Luitpold's Column

Highlight • Monument

Luitpold Karl Joseph Wilhelm of Bavaria (born March 12, 1821 in Würzburg; † December 12, 1912 in Munich) was Prince Regent of the Kingdom of Bavaria from 1886 until his death; first for three days for his nephew King Ludwig II, then for his mentally ill brother Otto I. While his reign brought about great cultural prosperity for Munich, for Bavaria it meant the gradual placing of Bavarian interests behind those of the German Empire.

Very nice small circular route with a magnificent view of the Königssee

The Malerwinkel is a popular vantage point on the north shore of the Königssee. The view from the Malerwinkel over the otherwise difficult to reach Königssee extends over the pilgrimage church of St. Bartolomä to the Schönfeldpitze in the Steinernen Meer.

From the Königssee car park, a path leads past the picturesque boat sheds to the Berchtesgaden National Park. Past the Café Malerwinkel, the walk leads to the so-called Malerwinkel. This hike is also very popular as a winter walk, then the way to the Malerwinkel is cleared and scattered.

Attention: Do not follow the narrow path that follows from the Malerwinkel along the banks of the Königssee. This is an old trail, which is now decayed and a great danger of falling!

We walked the Konigsee route, which ran a short distance along the lake on a paved forest path, a loop along the top that ends back at the mountain railways of the village.

Boathouses on Lake Königssee

Highlight • Structure

Boatyard Koenigssee:
The part of the company with the highest turnover employs around 80 people. All 19 passenger boats have been powered purely electrically since 1909. The electricity for this comes from the batteries in the hull of the boat. In order for the boats to be able to operate for a whole day, the batteries must be charged overnight.

During the winter months, the employees in the driving service work in their trained professions as boat builders, joiners, carpenters, painters, electricians, saddlers or locksmiths. Then the boats are repaired or rebuilt. The boats, which are predominantly made of wood, but also the 16 huts covered with wooden shingles require a high financial and personnel repair effort. However, this is often used in order to preserve the characteristics and charm of the lake in the national park.

The train service at Königssee is all year round.
