Red Chair – Wallbaums Ruh (Barntruper Art Trail)

Highlight • Monument

The red chair belongs to the "Wallbaum's Rest" station, which also includes another chair and a poem. The name "Wallbaum" is based on the former owner of the "Deutsches Haus" hotel. This place invites reflection. Here you can pause and take in the works of art.

Over 2000 years ago, the Celts developed a tree calendar based on a lunar calendar with 13 months. Each month corresponded to a lunar phase and was therefore about 28 days long according to today's calendar.

In keeping with the seasons, the Celts divided the year into two half-years from March to September and from September to March, i.e. the time of long and short days. The Celtic tree calendar assigned 21 trees to the different phases of the year, which make up a Celtic tree horoscope.

Oak, birch, olive and beech represent the change of seasons. In the Celtic tree horoscope, they therefore only appear once a year for one day.

The giant clef is part of an art trail around Barntrup. The idea was to install sculptures made of stone, metal or wood at selected locations that would tell a piece of Barntruper's history. Where the "treble clef" stands today, there used to be an old oak tree, the symbol of the local singing club "Liedertafel", who christened it "singing oak". However, since it had to be felled for safety reasons, the Barntrupers planted an oversized clef at this point in 2009. The design comes from Wolfgang Redecker.
