Evangelical Church in Pszczyna

Highlight • Religious Site

Efforts to build an evangelical church in Pszczyna began in 1709.
The original church for the Evangelical commune in Pszczyna was built in the years 1743 - 1746 from the foundation of Erdmann Promnitz according to the design of the Promnitz court architect - Christian Jahne, with the participation of Jerzy Prisch, a carpenter. In 1746 consecrated. There is a school and a teacher's apartment next to the church.
In 1860, the tower was extended, while introducing minor architectural changes. In 1896, a new organ was founded.
In 1905 the church burned down. The reconstruction, which lasted until 1907, was managed by the architect Scheinnert (who immediately took up the reconstruction of the Książ castle). In this way, a neo-baroque church building was created, which is the largest room in the city.

Gate of the Chosen, built in 1687, is the oldest preserved part of the castle complex in its original form and served as the main entrance to the castle grounds. Constructed by builder Consilio Milius for castle owner Baltazar Promnitz, it replaced a 15th-century gatehouse with a drawbridge over the moat and housed quarters for castle guards.

The gate features a stone portal with coats of arms of the Promnitz family and a Latin inscription containing a chronostich that reveals the construction date.

All Saints Church

Highlight • Religious Site

All Saints Church in Pszczyna - a Roman Catholic church, the first mention of which dates back to 1326.
After the dangerous fire of the city in 1622, the temple was rebuilt by Jerzy Walentyn Meyer from Moravian Ostrava. In another fire in the city in 1748, the church building burned down almost completely. Reconstruction after the fire, completed in 1754, was conducted this time under the supervision of the Promnitz court architect, Christian Jähne. The new temple was erected using the walls of the old one. The church was renovated in 1791 (under the supervision of Gawron, a bricklayer master), and later rebuilt several times.

Castle in Pszczyna

Highlight • Castle

Castle in Pszczyna - former magnate residence in Pszczyna (German: Pless) in Upper Silesia, which was built on the site of a defensive Gothic castle from the beginning of the 15th century, probably built on the site of an earlier fortification. Then the castle was rebuilt in the 16th century in the renaissance style, and in the 18th century in the baroque style and again in the 19th century in the French baroque style from the times of Louis XIII. In the Middle Ages it was the property of, among others, the Opole-Racibórz dukes, the dukes of Opava and the dukes of Cieszyn. In the years 1548–1765 it belonged to the Silesian family of Promnitz, 1765–1847 to the princes Anhalt-Köthen-Pless, and from 1847 to the princes Hochberg von Pless from Książ. In the years 1870–1876, they rebuilt the castle, as a result of which it obtained its present architectural shape in the neo-baroque style.

Pszczyna again, this time the interior. Surprisingly, I managed to get in for free but without the possibility of visiting the second floor and the armory. Mixed feelings. It seems like money in my pocket but still unsatisfied. The reason for all the fuss was probably a certain Chopin. From next Friday or Saturday the palace will be closed because …
