Cap de Norfeu

Highlight • Natural Monument

Cap Norfeu is a cape located in the SE of the Cap de Creus peninsula, on the Alt Empordà coast and in the N of the Costa Brava, which extends 2 km into the Mediterranean Sea forming a narrow elongated and curved peninsula between the bay of Jóncols (to the N) and the bay of Montjoi (to the S), at the bottom of which are the coves of the same names. This head closes to the N the Gulf of Roses.

The area of the cape belongs to the municipality of Roses and is part of the Cap de Creus Natural Park. It is an area under integral protection, terrestrial and marine, due to the great natural wealth of the area and the underwater environment.

Cap Norfeu Viewpoint

Highlight • Viewpoint

The Cape de Creus Natural Park, the first maritime-terrestrial park in the country, was created thanks to a law of 1998 that protected the Cape de Creus peninsula and its marine environment.
The total area of the park is 13,886 hectares, of which 10,813 is land and 3,073 is sea. In the country, three natural areas of national interest have been created, in the north that called Cabeza Gorda-Cape de Creus; in the south Punta Falconera-Norfeu and in the west the Sierra de Rodes. Likewise, all islands and rocky islets in the protected part of the sea belong to the nature park.

Norfeu Tower

Highlight • Monument

Watchtower on a promontory of which only the lower part remains, where there was a covered water cistern with a hemispherical vault. Built in 1599, it was part of the network of fortifications that defended the coast from pirate attacks. It has a circular plan, was originally more than 7 meters high and is made of coarse-grained, irregular and unworked limestone. It was destroyed by lightning in the mid-18th century.

Cap de Norfeu

A 10 km cliff path hike 🥾🥾🎒 with an unbelievably great view was our goal today.

Through an extensive nature reserve, we went very close to the abyss to Cap de Norfeu.
We snaked our way up past hundreds of cacti 🌵 and old ruins 🏚️.
