Belvís Convent

Founded at the beginning of the s. XIV by the friars of Bonaval, it was the first convent that had the order of Dominican nuns in Galicia. At the beginning of the s. XVIII the conventual building is rebuilt according to the plans of Fray Gabriel de Casas. On the extremely sober façade, the coat of arms of Archbishop Monroy, patron of the construction, stands out. The church, built between 1727 and 1739, is the work of Fernando de Casas y Novoa. Made of granite masonry, it has a Latin cross plan covered with a barrel vault and dome. The tower serves as a union with the chapel of the Virgen del Portal (1702), forming a right angle. The set stands out for its great simplicity and sobriety motivated by the lack of resources.
