Ruins of Castro Ferral Castle

Highlight • Castle

These remains correspond to an old fortress perched on a promontory known as Castro Ferral.
This castle was demolished (it seems to be by the Castilian armies, during the battle of Las Navas de Tolosa that took place on July 16, 1212, to prevent it from falling into Muslim hands.
It has been like this for several centuries as a mute witness to the glorious historical past. Stepping on that terrain and touching those nearby rocks take us back to important moments in our history.
To climb it is necessary to make an effort, both on one side and on the other, by a steep firewall, although the reward for both the place and the views are well worth it.

King's Pass

Highlight • Mountain Pass

To get to Puerto del Rey (1,132 m) we have to climb quite hard, also on a gravel road. This port was an important mountain pass during the Modern Age from the Plateau towards Andalusia.
It is located within the Despeñaperros natural park, a protected space, excavated by the Despeñaperros river. Resting after the good climb, you can enjoy the typical flora of the entire Sierra Morena, especially holm oaks, cork oaks and pines.

El Empedraillo

Highlight • Historical Site

It is a short journey along a paved road that treasures a great history as it is attributed an antiquity that dates back to Roman times. It is formed by a careful network of stones nailed to the ground as a firm that would ensure the adherence of the cavalry, since it is located on an old Roman road.
The curious thing is that it is in the middle of nowhere and perhaps at some point it was much larger than what we can now enjoy, because it only measures a couple of hundred meters.
In any case, it is a vestige of the past that is well worth observing, preserving and stepping on, since very relevant historical events took place on those same stones, such as the battle of Las Navas de Tolosa that took place in these places back in 1212.

La Aliseda Recreation Area

Highlight • Rest Area

Ideal resting place to stop and transport yourself to the world of enjoyment. Sometimes there are usually people barbecuing in authorized places and they tend to disturb the tranquility of the place, but even so, it is a highly recommended place to rest and fully enjoy yourself.
