Bader Bridge and Castle Tower

Highlight • Bridge

On the Barber's Bridge (Lazebnický most), pedestrians can cross the Vltava between Latrán and the Old Town. The current form of the bridge dates from around the 1830s. The steel truss bridge stands on two stone pillars and a central pillar at the beginning of the Vltava Island. The walkway is made of wooden planks. In the middle of the bridge there is a statue of St. John of Nepomuk and a depiction of the crucifixion. In 1830, the previous bridge, a simple wooden footbridge, was badly damaged by vandals. This is why the new bridge had to be built. The Barber's Bridge is named after the nearby public bath on the Latrán side.

Unity Square (Náměstí Svorností) is the centre of the old town with the town hall from the 16th century and the Plague Column from 1716. Several buildings are decorated with stucco and paintings. The square layout of the square, the arrangement of the houses on its sides and the exits of the streets correspond essentially to the state from the time of the city's founding in the Middle Ages.

As part of the castle, the Cloak Bridge (Plášťový most), also known as the Cascade Bridge, connects the Upper Castle with the Baroque castle theater, the Fifth Courtyard and the castle garden. The bridge consists of three floors with arches and columns, an open covered floor with sculptural decoration and three closed floors with two connecting corridors. The lower corridor connects the Masquerade Hall with the castle theater, the upper corridor connects the castle picture gallery with the castle garden and continues to the Minorite Monastery on the Lateran. In the Middle Ages, a moat was dug here, which was spanned by a footbridge with a drawbridge. The Cloak Bridge was built here successively in 1686, 1707, 1748 and 1765. Duke Josef I Adam of Schwarzenberg was responsible for the baroque design.

View of Český Krumlov's Old Town

Highlight • Viewpoint

This is an incredible city. I want to come back here again and again. The view from the arch bridge to the old town is probably the most amazing sight in Cesky Krumlov, but do not forget to visit its gingerbread streets and touch the walls of houses to make sure that this is not a fairy tale - a must! 😍😍

Český Krumlov Castle

Highlight • Castle

Český Krumlov is a castle converted into a palace on a rocky outcrop above the left bank of the Vltava. With an area of more than six hectares, it is the second largest castle and palace complex in Bohemia (after Prague Castle). It is the most visited tourist destination in South Bohemia. In 1992, the entire historical complex of the castle and the urban surroundings were added to the UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage List. The castle area is one of the largest in Central Europe in terms of area. It includes forty buildings and palace structures with five castle courtyards and the seven-hectare castle garden.

August 5, 2024,Krumlov, die wohl schönste Kleinstadt Tschechiens
Today we visited what is probably the most beautiful small town in the Czech Republic. It is worth it in every respect. Culture, parks and restaurants in abundance. There are also plenty of parking spaces. It is not free, but €4 for a day ticket is OK.

A real gem, this UNESCO World Heritage Site! And probably hopelessly overrun in the summer... even on October 1st there were a lot of Asians and Americans out and about, wandering around the castle in large groups, but you could still enjoy the atmosphere.

Today we made a detour to Český Krumlov in 🇨🇿, as we had been interested in this beautiful city on the Vltava for a while.
We can say that we were not disappointed 😁 and the cell phone photographer 🧡 beat faster and the snapping finger and power bank couldn't find peace 😅🙈 (so sorry for the flood of pictures🤷‍♀️) …

This was the trip I was most looking forward to.
We were in Česky Krumlov in September 1994 and I love this beautiful old town, which is surrounded by the Vltava like a peninsula. It's simply a dream and I don't think it will be another 30 years before we come back.

What an amazing old town! 😍 This time we chose Český Krumlov for our stopover. A medieval small town tucked away in southern Bohemia, right on the Vltava River. Our expectations were high and they were far exceeded!.😃👍🏻The history, picturesque location combined with colorful facades, cobblestone streets and magnificent stately architecture makes Cesky Krumlov a fairytale destination. We immediately fell …

August 6, 2022,Cesky Krumlov - Krumau
Krumlov gets a lot of high praise - and rightly so - a great, worthwhile spot!
With your car calmed down, let's start here with a view of the Cloak Bridge, up to the castle but then first through the garden...
The castle is overwhelming and offers many great picture constellations.
In addition, there are always great views over the …

Krumau is worth seeing even without events. But with this festival it is even more special.
We travelled as a group with a local bus company. We had to wait a bit before reaching Krumau. A slot system was introduced for buses here too.
This means that the bus can only drive to the boarding/drop-off point in a specific time …
