Lake Caldaro is a highlight from everywhere. If you come from Eppan-Kaltern, you will experience it on a beautiful, well-paved bike path between the wineries, which descend with us down the slope to the shore of the lake.

Vineyards at Lake Caldaro

Highlight • Viewpoint

Lake Kaltern (Italian: Lago di Caldaro) is a lake at the junction of the Überetsch and the Unterland in South Tyrol (Italy). Lake Kaltern is one of the largest lakes in South Tyrol (although it is rather poor in terms of lakes) and is considered – along with Lake Klopein – the warmest bathing lake in the Alps. The water temperature reaches up to 28°C in summer, and the bathing season runs from May to September.

The eastern and western shores are mainly developed for tourism; the southern shore is reedy. In addition to swimming, other popular sports include rowing and pedal boating, sailing, and windsurfing. The latter benefit from the prevailing mountain and valley wind circulation and the afternoon ora wind. Motorboats are not permitted. There is also a signposted and easily accessible circular hiking trail around the lake.

Mendel Pass

Highlight • Mountain Pass

The winding Mendel Pass road, with a maximum gradient of around seven percent, features a total of fifteen hairpin bends. A drive up the Mendel Pass was, and still is, a special experience. Breathtaking views of the vineyards of the Überetsch region and the Dolomite mountains are guaranteed. Unfortunately, these views aren't fully appreciated when driving, so it was decided to close the Mendel Pass road to traffic for one day, allowing cyclists and walkers to enjoy the pass at a leisurely pace. Refreshments will be provided for participants along the route!

A great tour, strenuous, but rewarded with fantastic views. The bike path was ours alone (heavenly quiet, no buzzing from anyone 🔌) 😉, and just before the Mendel Pass, a few electric cars overtook us 🙃 what an achievement 👍😅
The descent from the Mendel Pass was a delight 🤗

@truckerkoenig Well, let's have a tour that's worth getting up for

Showing Translation

The cycle path signage from Fondo is extremely poor. The cycle path is not continuous and only 3 stars because the journey between Fondo and Mazzocorona is not particularly exciting. From Masi di Vigo you are only on the state road. There is a lot of traffic in places and then you can only drive along the motorway feeder road …
