Lukomir Village

Highlight • Settlement

Lukomir is a small mountain village in the center of Bosnia and Herzegovina about 40 kilometers southwest of Sarajevo. With its location at 1455 m, Lukomir is the highest settlement in the country and the only one at over 1300 m altitude.

Due to the stećci (tombstones) found in the village and its surroundings, some of which date from the 14th and 15th centuries, historians assume that Lukomir has been inhabited at least since that time.

During the Bosnian War the place was hardly affected due to its remoteness, but was attacked with artillery several times from the other side of the Rakitnica Canyon.

December 9, 2023,Umoljani - Obalj (1896m) - Lukomir - Rakitnce Canyon 🇧🇦
From the traditional style Bosnian mosque in the village of Umoljani we go to the summer village of Gradina. Chances are good that we will see many villagers collecting their summer harvest. Unlike Umoljani, the village was not destroyed during the war and still has some excellent examples of traditional Bjelasnica summer village architecture. From here we start the climb …

Wonderful hike. In October the blueberry fields had great colors. The way there via Obalj is sometimes a bit difficult to find, but you mostly walk over pastureland and there are enough trails to get you back on the right hiking trail. The way back is very well marked.

Another beautiful, sunny day in Bjelasnica with trusted company. :-) The company I work for organized another "trip" for all interested employees. This time there were 40+ of us. Weather - perfect, team - perfect, lunch (after the tour) in Koliba - perfect. Who needs more??

What a fantastic hike near Sarajevo.
This wintery February we were blessed with beautiful views of the breathtaking mountains around us. I hiked together with the trained mountain hiking guide Edin from Meet Bosnia.
