Ricardo's Wine Vats

Highlight • Monument

Ricardo's wine vats are on the bed of the Flequer torrent. It is a set of six circular vats and two huts. The bottom of the vats is made of stone and lime mortar and the inside is covered with slightly curved varnished ceramic tiles. At the top the walls are made of stone without bonding material and the entrances are located. The overhang stretches over the walls, built of flatter stones. The roof is made by the method of approximating rows, and a layer of sand and gravel is spread over it.

Mas de la Vila

Highlight • Historical Site

Large manor house, facing west. From 1304 there are news of the Vila family and the farmhouse that had it in the allotment of the lords of the castle of Talamanca. From the first establishment in the 12th century, the house has always been inhabited for generations by the Vila family and their descendants. It was not until 1910 that with the death of the last pubilla Vila, the house passed into the hands of the surname Singla.

Church of Santa Maria de Rocafort

Highlight • Religious Site

Due to the terrain in which the town of Rocafort is located, a rocky massif surrounded by landscapes with a lot of stone and little earth, it was believed that this was the reason for the name Rocafort. Later studies ensure that the origin of Rocafort is given by the existence of the castle. Calling a castle Roc comes from the game of chess, in which there are pieces equivalent to fortresses, previously called roques and now towers. In the coat of arms of the lords of Rocafort, and later that of the Sitjars, who were also lords of Rocafort, several roques are represented, as in the current municipal coat of arms. That is why the place name has its origin in the existence of its castle or roc in Catalan, which was once expanded or fortified, that is why a fort was added to Roc, forming Rocafort.
