To photograph a herd of Heidschnuck sheep up close, you have to be lucky. Due to the threat of wolves, the herds are closely guarded by four-legged sentinels everywhere. Herd protection dogs were well represented here on the heathland, predominantly Maremma-Abruzzi Shepherds, and you shouldn't get too close to them.
