The sound of rushing water is evocative and relaxing on the warmest of days, washing any fatigue downstream.

Tarka Trail

Highlight • Cycleway

Covering 180 miles (290 km) through Devon, the Tarka Trail is one of the longest traffic-free bike paths in the UK. There's a lot more to it than just this section. The route leads through stunning and diverse scenery, from white beaches to green countryside and impressive sea cliffs. The route is flat and well surfaced, making it an ideal cycling location for any level of rider. You can read more about the Tarka Trail, here: tarkatrail.org.uk

Instow Station on the Tarka Trail

Highlight • Cycleway

Flat and easy to ride trail, we picked it up in Barnstaple and followed to Bideford. I am sure there are lovely views across the Estuary however we didn't get to enjoy them as there was a low sea mist the day we rode! Some nice little cafe stops along the way at old stations.

Oyster Shack Café

Highlight • Restaurant

Super nice little outdoor coffee hut that also does a variety of really nice looking seafood dishes like mussels, oysters, crab and lobster. Coffee and cakes were good, didn't eat on this occasion but will definitely try it out in the future, and add my thoughts here when I do.

Dog friendly (they do doggy icecream which I assume is ice cream for dogs).

View of the Taw Estuary

Highlight • Viewpoint

Take a few mins to sit on one of the benches and take in the scenary. This is a good rest spot as there's a cafe where you can get some food or just sit outside with your pack lunch. This is a very popular touristy destination so expect it to be busy in the summer months
