The current refurbishment targets the Passivhaus EnerPHit standard for retrofit. This means the 314 homes reduce space heating by up to 80%. Residents will benefit from reduced heating and hot water bills. Proposals also include new communal entrances providing dual-sided approaches as well as new lifts. In addition, external balconies will be enclosed to enable residents to use them all year round.

Just one mile from the hustle and bustle of the city centre lies the green space of Glasgow’s only inner-city Local Nature Reserve – The Claypits.

Originally the home of a clay quarry used when the Forth & Clyde Canal was first built in the late 1700s, it was also the site of a foundry, glassworks and boat-building yard. These industries are long gone but the historic canal buildings, the oldest in Scotland, still dot the banks.

Forth & Clyde Smart Canal

Highlight • River

Construction of Europe’s first ever ‘smart canal’ scheme, which uses the 250-year-old Forth & Clyde Canal and 21st century technology to mitigate flood risk as well as enable massive regeneration, is now underway in Glasgow.

The pioneering new digital surface water drainage system unlocks 110 hectares across the north of the city for investment, regeneration and development, paving the way for more than 3000 new homes.

Speirs Wharf

Highlight • Structure

Speirs Wharf is a Glasgow city landmark on the Forth and Clyde Canal. The buildings here were built in 1851 as grain mills, storage & the offices of the Forth & Clyde Navigation Co. They were converted into apartments and retail space in 1989.
Today it's a trendy place with a nice cafe and leisure facilities. The canal is a good place to run, and this is a good stop if your running from the city centre or back into town.
