The church of S.Maria in Bressanoro is less famous and less known than the Sanctuary of the Beata Vergine della Misericordia (also because it is located along the road axis towards Cremona), but it represents from a historical point of view an important page as it was commissioned by Bianca Maria Visconti in the 15th century. Bianca Maria Visconti was the last of the Visconti dynasty, of Milan, and with her began the Sforza dynasty, as she was the wife of Francesco Sforza. The church was commissioned by the duchess to thank for a "miraculous" healing of her daughter. Certainly the most innovative aspect for the time and compared to other religious monuments of the era is the free or extroverted Greek cross plan. Inside, today it was strangely open and there was no one, there are late 15th-century frescoes that illustrate the life of Jesus and his crucifixion.

Sanctuary of Mercy of Castelleone

Highlight • Religious Site
