Stone Monument in Eisingen

Highlight • Monument

A Frankish settlement can be dated to the second half of the 8th century. The Oberzell monastery had owned Eisingen since 1164, and it was responsible for pastoral care of the place up until modern times. Around 1500, the Knights' Monastery (until 1464 a Benedictine monastery) of St. Burkard in Würzburg owned the village ruler and a good half of the manorial estate. Other landowners were the Clarisse monastery of St. Agnes (which later became the property of the Jesuits and then the University of Würzburg), the Himmelpforten monastery, the Neumünster monastery and the Hofkammerzinsamt, the latter probably as the legal successor to the former Burcardin provost Frauenberg. As part of the Bishopric of Würzburg, Eisingen was secularized in favor of Bavaria in 1803, then given to Archduke Ferdinand of Tuscany in the Peace of Pressburg (1805) to form the Grand Duchy of Würzburg, with which it finally reverted to Bavaria in 1814.

Tauber Bridge

Highlight • Bridge

The bridge, built in 1730, is the first stone bridge at this location and has remained almost unchanged since then. This is also evidenced by the structure's single-lane width.
