Southern Viewpoint, Hohenurach Fortress

Highlight • Viewpoint

It is a real torture to ride the bike to the castle. The rest and the view into the country pay for it. Not to forget the fast descent.

Hohenurach Castle Ruins

Highlight • Castle

A really large ruin complex of the former prison fortress Hohenurach. The Urach waterfall can be seen and heard from there. There are still some rooms, cellars, dungeons, and open spaces to explore, and the ruin is definitely worth a detour. Until 2024, the castle ruins will still be renovated in four construction phases. However, only a very small part is always enclosed by scaffolding, which does not detract from the experience at the castle. We found it exceptionally beautiful and interesting. The spiral staircases are often very small and narrow, so clothing that can get a bit dirty should be worn. Otherwise, everything is very easily accessible.

Fairly wide path, very STEEP but worthwhile ascent to the Hohenurach castle ruins.

Rutschenfelsen Plateau

Highlight • Viewpoint

As a nature lover, you cannot escape the magic of the plateau between the rocky slides and the Rutschenbächle, the "enchanted" spring in the small rock endoline. While the grassland with its small, half-timbered shelter rests peacefully, it becomes spectacular on the edge. The abyss awaits in the north, with a view of the imposing stone needles of the rock slide, in the south the said source with the shortest course of the Alb. A few hundred meters further to the east, the rocky path down to the waterfalls takes your breath away. Reason enough to pause here, to let the calm have its effect on you, before you continue hiking - ready for something new.

View from the Rutschenfelsen

Highlight • Viewpoint

From the rock of the slide you have a great view of the Round Mountain, the ruins of Hohenneuffen and Hohenurach, Teck Castle in the distance, of the Maisental and Bad Urach.

Rutschenfelsen Viewpoint

Highlight • Viewpoint

A fantastic view of the Hoher Urach and the Ermstal valley, with Hoher Neuffen visible on the horizon to the left of the Hoher Urach. Anyone looking for a nice place to rest and take a breather would be well advised to plan this spot (Rutschenfelsen) into their route so that they arrive here at break time.
