This puny coastal town was Britain's main bridgehead. A monument commemorating the invasion stands at the intersection of the D514 and Avenue du Colonel-Harper. The lighthouse with radio beacon (range 46 km) guides ships through the Channel, in conjunction with the lighthouses of Portland, St Catherine's Point (England), Antifer, Le Havre and Gatteville.
