View of Ittendorf Castle

Highlight • Castle

Ittendorf Castle, today Ittendorf Palace, is a ruined hilltop castle and later a palace on a hill about 440 m above sea level in what is now the Ittendorf district of the small town of Markdorf in the Bodenseekreis in Baden-Württemberg. The castle and the church of St. Martin are considered to be the landmarks of Ittendorf.

The castle of the Schenken von Schmalegg, a Welf-Staufen ministerial family, was probably built in the 13th century and is documented around 1260. In 1302 the castle and the village became the feudal dependency of the Salem monastery through a formal sale.[1] The castle was destroyed in the Peasants' War of 1524.[2]

The castle was built by the Einsiedeln monastery on the castle site in the 17th century and expanded from 1671 to 1677 as a governor's residence.

The castle, surrounded by a medieval ring wall, is a three-story stepped gable building that has been privately owned since secularization.

Friedrichshafen Castle Pier

Highlight • Bridge

King Charles I had the castle footbridge built from sandstone as a promenade footbridge.
It was only used for presentations and to greet arriving guests from a distance.

Immenstaad Pier and Peninsula Park

Highlight • Rest Area

Free e-bike charging station, public toilet, ice cream parlor, restaurant. Cycling ban on the peninsula. When it is accessed, however, there are decent storage options. Definitely go on foot, I think it's worth it. Playground, sunbathing lawns, seating, an interesting fountain, a jetty to the landing stage for the ships. Access to the marina is not allowed, even for pedestrians. Overall, a very nicely landscaped public park. So if you come near Immenstaad, you should make a detour here. Although Immenstaad cannot, of course, come close to Meersburg or Lindau.

August 25, 2025,Eigentlich nur Friedrichshafen aber dann weiter zu Fritz Berger
Beautiful tour past apples, pears, and plums.
Quiet, hardly any traffic.
Partly parallel to the B31,
where everyone is stuck in traffic 😎
Lots of bike paths here 🔝.

The second week of vacation has started on Lake Constance. We just got on our bikes and followed the Lake Constance cycle path to Friedrichshafen. At least this piece was a little disappointing: Always next to the main road and not a piece of Lake Constance to be seen 😩.
But Friedrichshafen was overrun by people 😱
So we had …

We can only recommend today's tour to a limited extent because a large part of the route is on cycle paths, but very often runs parallel to roads. The town of Immenstaad is small, nice and quiet. It is particularly beautiful along the riverside road. Friedrichshafen is a big city and accordingly busy. There are lots of people milling around …

Today to Friedrichshafen and back. Strolling through the pedestrian zone at the harbor. Everything very relaxed.

Unfortunately, the "cycle path" in this direction leads mostly along the main road; however, Immebstaad and the promenade in Friedrichshafen are worth seeing👍🏻
