Catholic Church of St. Bartholomew, Wildhaus
In earlier times, Wildhaus belonged to the "parish" and high district of Gams, thus to the diocese of Chur and was under the feudal rule of the Barons of Sax. They built the "wild house", the Wildenburg, around 1200. In order to avoid the arduous and long church journey to Gams, a chapel was built in 1381 in Schönenboden (Seewies), as a branch of the mother church in Gams, under the name "our dear lady". In 1401, Duke Leopold of Austria donated it to the Pfäfers monastery. In 1484, the year Huldrych Zwingli was born, the chapel in Schönenboden was demolished and a new Church of Our Lady was built on the "Forrenguet", the current Protestant church. In 1528, Wildhaus converted to the Reformed faith. From 1595 onwards, the church served services of both denominations. During the Counter-Reformation, some believers in Wildhaus also returned to the Catholic Church. The current Catholic church was built between 1774 and 1777. On July 7, 1777, the new church was consecrated by the auxiliary bishop of Constance, Baron von Hornstein. The church has been renovated inside and out numerous times. The last interior renovation took place in 2015 and the church now shines in new splendor.
The organ was rebuilt in 1978 by the W. Graf company, Sursee. The cost was 180,000 francs.
The tower of the current church dates from 1934.
