Kamniška Bistrica Mountain Hut

Highlight (Segment) • Mountain Hut

The home is located in the upper end of the alpine valley of Kamniška Bistrica, just above the lake, into which Bistrica flows from several karst springs along the coast. The first mountain hut was arranged by the SPD in the former tourist hut, which it took over from the Kamnik Municipal Corporation. It was opened on May 23, 1909. After World War I, the SPD thoroughly renovated and enlarged the outpost, and furnished the exterior with elements of Alpine architecture. They finished the work in 1928, when they also built an annex with a wooden terrace opposite the main building. The new home was ceremoniously opened on May 5, 1929. After the Second World War, the home was managed by the PD Ljubljana-Matica, which was renovated, remodeled and updated several times. In 2019, following denationalization procedures, the home was returned to the ownership of the Kamnik Municipal Corporation, and the home continues to be managed as a tenant by PD Ljubljana-Matica.

View:

From the house there is a beautiful view of the ridge of the Kamniški Alps, which surrounds the valley. To the east, between the narrow valleys of Sedelšček and Kamniška Bela, the southern slopes of Rigeljec and Mešenik rise; in the southeast, the western slopes of Velika planina descend into the valley; in the south, the wider view is obscured by the eastern slopes of Mokrica from the Krvavac group; in the west, the slopes of the Kalški Greben rise above the valley; the most beautiful is the view towards the northwest to the heart of the Kamniški Alps, where Skuta, Štruca, Mlinarsko sedlo and the peak of Grintovec can be seen behind the high edge of Veliki Podovi; on the northern side of the valley rises the southern ridge of Brane.

More interesting tours:

Cojzova Hut at Kokrsko Saddle

Highlight • Mountain Hut

The hut stands at the top of the Kokrski sedlo between Grintovec and Kalška gora, which is also a pass between the valleys of Kamniška Bistrica and Kokra. It is named after the brothers Žiga Zois (1747-1819), mentor and patron of Slovenian writers, naturalist, geologist and mineralogist, and botanist Karel Zois (1756-1799). The first hut was built in 1897 by the German-Austrian Mountaineering Association. After the First World War, it was taken over by the SPD, which thoroughly restored it. After the Second World War, it was managed by PD Kamnik. The hut eventually became too small and the tidiness was no longer adequate, so in 1966 it was renovated and enlarged. In 1967, a freight cable car was pulled from Konec in Kamniška Bistrica. In 1986, water was installed from a 900m distant spring and this year they also started building a new large extension. The expansion and renovation of the hut was completed in 1988, and on the occasion of the 95th anniversary of the founding of the Kamnik branch of the SPD, the enlarged and renovated hut was opened on 18 September 1988. PD Kamnik has done a lot in recent years to ensure that the cottage also meets strict environmental criteria, so as part of bilateral cooperation between Austria and Slovenia, it equipped it with a treatment plant and photovoltaic generator and wind farm to replace electricity, which replaces the diesel generator. The cottage is open from mid-June to mid-October.

View:

Due to the nearby peaks, the view is wider only to the east and west. In the east, we first see a torrent ravine below the Kokrski sedlo between the walls of Jurjevac on the north and Kalška gora on the south side of the ravine, and for a while we also follow the upper part of the path from Kamniška Bistrica; to the southeast, a view of Velika planina opens up over the Kamniška Bistrica valley; on the south side there is a wall of Kalška gora and the famous Pasja glava nearby; to the west, the view descends over Suhadolnikova planina into the Kokra valley, above which Storžič rises; on the north side we have a beautiful view of Grintovec, and on the left we can also see part of the southern ridge of Kočna.
