View of the Untersberg

Highlight • Viewpoint

Through a small gap between the trees you have a view of the valley... the view of the Untersberg is much more impressive from here

Spring on the Dopplersteig

A place to fill water bottles while climbing the Dopplersteig route. The water seems to be clean.

Adventurous Dopplersteig

Highlight (Segment) • Climb

The Doppler Trail is the adventurous ascent to the vulture. About wooden stairs and stone steps it goes below the rock walls steeply upwards. Some places are very exposed and not for people who are not afraid of heights.

High above Salzburg towers the Untersberg – a mountain full of stories and mysterious places. Legends tell of dwarves, emperors, and hidden caves. Those who set out on the trail …

Easy and worthwhile ascent from the mountain station of the Untersbergbahn. Easy to do even with little fitness and mountain experience. Sturdy shoes are highly recommended!

Reitsteig Trail

Highlight • Trail

A little less pretty than the ascent via the Dopplersteig... the Reitsteig leads up over 2,500 steps to the Zeppezauer Haus... most of the time the path runs through forest, only towards the end do the views become more beautiful

The route runs consistently along fairly steep mountain paths and trails. Partially secured passages. Sure-footedness, a head for heights and a good level of fitness are required. If you have problems with stairs, you should keep your hands off the tour (over 4000 steps on both climbs!!!)

The weather forecast for the coming days looks good and there was still a room available in our favorite hotel in Berchtesgaden - what could be more natural than to end the summer in good memories in the Alps.
Although the Untersberg is right by Berchtesgaden, it was uncharted territory for me until now. Its highest point is 1972m and …

.... a nice "exhausting" round with a final bath in the "cool" mountain stream💦

The dog had to stay at home this time because I thought there would be a short climb. I met a nice border collie on the way, but he bravely managed it. Still, I think it would have been too much for our girl.
If you like stairs, you have to do this tour. If you don't, don't. I had …

A superb hike up the Untersberg to the Salzburg Hochthron via the Dopplersteig and down via the Reitsteig. Refreshments are available at the Zeppezauerhaus, and the descent is also possible by gondola.

🏁The hike starts at the hiking car park in Glanegg.

The path to the summit is actually beautiful, but it is not a mountain hiking route, but a long staircase. The path downhill is completely uninteresting.

Scolded yesterday because my tour was 22 instead of 18 km long and km are already being deducted from me today
Pretty unfair on the mega strenuous tour

Dopplersteig with giant steps 2500 pieces and down 🔴 with just as many steps
The butt is so trained today 👍👍🍑🍑

Started the next tour today in the best weather. This time the Untersberg was the goal. The tour then started from the Rossetistraße car park in Glanegg. The planned tour then took us up the notorious Dopplersteig to the Untersberg. With a good level of fitness, a head for heights and sure-footedness, we went up the seemingly endless steps to …
