Bear Lane and Shortwood Lane Dirt Tracks

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Linking the farm at Dalditch to Shortwood Common and up to Hayes Wood, these two mucky dirt lanes are great fun on either a gravel bike or mountain bike. Although not a bridleway, the track is open for public access, according to online right of way information.

Up the rutted lane and onto Bear Lane, you'll pass fields on either sides, with views of the East Devon coastline. It's pretty mucky here when wet - be warned!

You'll also pass by a few fields that are owned by the Clinton Devon Estate for the Dalditch organic dairy herd.

Check out all the metal work on the side of Dalditch Farm here, from the postbox to wacky drainpipes. Really creative!

Exe Estuary Trail boardwalk

Highlight • Cycleway

The Exe Estuary Trail is a 22.5-mile (36-km), mainly flat cycle route and walkway that runs around the entire Exe Estuary linking Exmouth, Exeter and Dawlish, with fantastic views along the River Exe. The trail is part of the National Cycle Network Route 2 and is predominantly off-road. It passes through some beautiful riverside towns and villages steeped in maritime history, such as Topsham and Lympstone. The trail also offers a great opportunity to see the diverse and plentiful wildlife that inhabits the estuary, such as birds, fish and seals.

Exe Estuary Trail

Highlight • Trail

The Exe Estuary Trail is a splendid traffic free path that stretches from Dawlish Warren to Exmouth.

As it is flat and well-surfaced, it is ideal for a family MTB ride, for beginners or for an nice warm up or cool down on a longer route.

The trail passes along the estuary so expect wide riverside views and keep an eye out for wildlife as the trail passes alongside RSPB marshes and the Goosemoor Nature Reserve.

Exton Bridleway

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

Brilliant linking way from the Exe Estuary path at Exton up towards the village of Woodbury. It's a single lane-width track that's rough in places, so better suited to gravel, cross and MTB rather than road bikes. There's also a few little splashes to navigate, although there are bridge alternatives. Look out for the dairy cows as you go!
