Highlight • Cafe

Biker, Cycle and dog friendly family run cafe with a history of 70+yrs continual business. New proprietor's for the '24 summer season and they're cool AF 😎. Stones, Zeppelin, new order, beach boys, nirvana and Jefferson Airplane on the playlist and everyone's having the craic. Been here for an hour talking to a dozen people I don't know from Adam or Eve and been peeing myself laughing 😂 for most of it. I wish it continued success 👍

Kendal Parish Church (Holy Trinity Church)

Kendal Parish Church is a Grade I-listed building and a fine sight to behold alongside the River Kent. Inside, the church is spacious and light, due to its large windows. Unusually, it boasts five aisles, which are separated by columns. Incredibly, a congregation 1,100 people strong was commonplace when the church was in its prime.

Just a minute's walk from Kendal's main thoroughfare is the serene River Kent. A stroll along the river is glorious at any time of day, whether you're just looking for a bit of peace and quiet or a spot of birdwatching. There's plenty of crossings too, making a riverside loop perfectly feasible.

Kendal Castle's romantic ruins sit high on a gentle hill above the market town, boasting stupendous views of both the town and beyond to the tumultuous Lakeland skyline.

Built at some point in the 12th century, it was the home of the barons of Kendal. The Parrs were the most renowned of the baronial families; Katherine Parr, in particular, found fame as the last of Henry VIII's queens. During the reign of the Tudors, the fortress fell into ruin and has remained so ever since.

It's the heart of our Festival – our social hub where brands bring their stories to life, our stages deliver talks from everyday adventures to the icons of the world of mountaineering and exploration and there is endless excitement from being with a whole bunch of people that love and cherish the outdoors.

Built using reclaimed wood and dressed in prayer flags, our Basecamps are a vibrant place to catch up with old friends and make new ones (have we mentioned that many a relationship has started in our Basecamp!) over a beer and live music.
